“Post Modernism and Post-Post Modernism: A Look at American Literature”
25.10.2006 (Wednesday) – 18:00
AMERICAN CORNER (Dolnośląska Public Library, Rynek 58)
Free admission
A lecture on American literature by Christian Dumais. In English.
“What happens when a character prefers not to? When the writer is suddenly a character in his own story? When the readers are supposed to get lost in the story they’re reading? From Herman Melville’s Bartleby the Scrivener to Kurt Vonnegut’s Breakfast of Champions to Mark Danielewski’s House of Leaves, this lecture will examine the differences in post Modernism and post-post Modernism, and how the two movements have altered not only literature but the process of storytelling. Fact blending with fiction, the destruction of chronology, the disruption of the basic shape of a story, the emergence of metafiction… there’s never been a more interesting time to read books.”
(”While it sounds stuffy and boring, it should be a lot of fun. Beer, however, will not be provided.” - Dumais)
