In July 2005 Gustaf Broms and Trish Littler started walking from Vendel in Sweden towards Mt Kailash in Tibet.
The walk is an idea of finding a way to create a “constant” in a fast changing world and from this perspective look at the times in which we live.
* to make a line where the body is the crayon, the walk is the artwork.
* to explore the concept of time-and-space and how our perception of them change with the slowness of moving by foot, compare our culture’s obsession with “saving time”.
* to look at the idea of memory-in-the-landscape, the path as a way of linking places that have a strong historic charge or other symbolic value.
* to look at the concept of east-and-west, compare the material poverty and rich inner culture of Tibet with 50,000 Swedes on antidepressants (2004) amid the high standard of living.
* to look at the concept of nationalism/state in a time when borders and people are in constant movement.

“As soon as the snow melts we are going to continue east towards Ukraine and collect images, text and sounds as the foundation for an exhibition and publication once the walk comes to an end. During the journey we show work in progress to keep a dialogue with the places we move through.
The hopes are to get away from stereotyped ideas regarding these concepts and if possible communicate the results.”
