Under the direction of Mariusz Smolij, Wrocław Chamber Orchestra “Leopoldinum”will play the compositions by Andrzej Panufnik, Aaron Copland, Anton Arensky and Joseph Haydn.
“Compositions of Arensky, who tutored such famous composers like Rimsky-Korsakov, Rakhmaninov and Scriabin among others, are not very well known, and his Variations on a theme of P. Tchaikovsky will be performed for the first time by the Leopoldinum orchestra. Igor Cecocho, trumpet soloist of the concert, will perform Andrzej Panufnik’s Concerto in modo antico. This piece was successfully recorded by both artists – Mariusz Smolij and Igor Cecocho for the firm Naxos (with the Polish Chamber Orchestra) in 2006.
Quiet City was originally composed by Aaron Copland as theater music for the Irvin Shaw’s play. But in this form was performed for two weeks only, later on (since 1941) only in the concert version. Two soloists will perform Quiet City: Igor Cecocho, trumpet and Waldemar Korpak, cor anglais.
Haydn’s symphony La Passione will conclude the program.” (From the press release)
